I use a range finder to know how far I hit each particular club whether its full swing, more than full or choke down on the shaft. Don’t make the fatal mistake of getting caught up in how far someone else hits their clubs. Know your distances with each club and they will be more impressed with your distance control when they are chipping onto the green because they hit one to two less clubs and made a bad swing.

I should probably get around to taking some lessons one of these days. I’m completely self taught, didn’t pick up a golf club until I was 18, didn’t start playing until I was 23 with a few years off in the middle.

I got a part-time job at a golf course last spring so I could play as much as I wanted, which took about 12 strokes off my game. At my best I shot mid to high 80’s regularly. Not that good, I know, but I love the game so my score is the second most important part of a round of golf for me.
