Golf: hybrid clubs, worth the hype?

Chronos asked:

I’m a beginner golfer. Had trouble with the long irons, but did fairly well with the shorter sticks, wedges, and fairway woods/driver. I was looking at this set of hybrid/irons (http://www.adamsgolf.com/Ideaa2a2OSHybrids.htm). Anyone used them? Experience with hybrid clubs?

Thanks!

Which wedges should I get?

Spartan Golfer asked:

I am getting new golf clubs, all Taylormades.

I tried a bunch of clubs at Golfsmith and all the Taylormade ones just happened to be all of the ones I like best.

I’m getting Taylormade everything, (except putter, that’s gonna be either Guerin Rife or Odyssey).

Anyways, I’m not sure which wedges to get, I’m torn between the Titleist Vokey Spin Milled Oil Can and the Taylormade Rac Black TP.

Both have great feel, the Vokey might be better in a while cause the oil can finish.

I hit them the same height, distance, everything. The Vokey obviously spins just a little bit more (35 RPM’s on average more for me). But I have all other clubs Taylormade so should I just go with the Taylormade wedges?
Oh yeah, they are pretty much the same price.

Also the Taylormade one looks cooler.

buying golf clubs/accessories?

genius asked:

I plan to buy a set of clubs (irons/driver/wedges/putter) and was wondering what would be reccomended before I get in the store and they just try selling me the most expensive stuff. I will get a new bag and any other “gadgets” that you find useful I would like to hear about. I like the Nike brand as well as Callaway, but I’m not limiting it to those. (10 points for best answer)

Difference between golf clubs?

Crazy H asked:

I got a job as a caddy and I start Saturday. I think I know the diiferent clubs but im just checking. A driver and fairway wood are used to hit the ball furthest not much accuracy in the hit, usaully you would hit it off a tee. They are usaully the longest clubs and have a more 3d shape. Irons hit more shorter distance but have better accuracy. Used on an approachin shot irons range in size because each 1 has different yardage. They have more of a flat shape. Putters are used to hit the ball very short distances on a putt shot. They have more of an ackward shape. Where I get confused is with the shape of hybrids and woods and i get confused with wedges and woods. What should I know that would help me recognize them? I know when you are supposed to use them but how can I recognize the club by its shape?

I’m 15 years old and I have an 8.1 handicap.
It should be lower, but I always throw away a few short game strokes, along with about one drive that I try hitting too hard and end up topping.

I play at the Bridges Golf Club in San Ramon, CA. It’s the 4th hardest course in Northern California.

I go to De La Salle high school. Best Sports school in the country. Last two years, we’ve won state and this year, came in 3rd.
I played on the JV team last year (freshman) because I had only been playing golf for about 1/2 year.

I’m pretty much self taught. I took a few begginer lessons, and just played on my own for a bout a year, and I’m now training with a great coach as I’m playing in more tournaments and stuff.
My coaches website: http://www.systemgolf.com/

I’m a member of the JGANC (Junior Golf Association of Northern California). They have lots of tournaments year round.

I think that’s about it!

Tell me about yourself the same way I did.
