I am 5′2 and I drive 220, is this good?

The Intelligent Agnostic asked:

As I am 12 and weigh 95 pounds and have golfed for a little over 6 months and shoot low 80s, is this good. I play from the middle tees at a tough course and have good irons and wedges but bad short game with fair putting. Should I join a junior tour and get in contact with the high school I will go to to meet the golf coach and get an idea pf what I need to shoot, I have a swing coach.

u should definatly talk to ur coach because he will tell u what he expects from you and that will only benefit u. as for your score thats very good for a 12 year old and joining a junior tour is a great idea so u can see wat other 12 year olds are shooting. keep working on ur swing but also do a lot stretching for flexibilty it wil only help u to become a better golfer

If you really like to play golf, and can afford it, I would recommend trying to play in junior tournaments. Most states have local and state junior events.

As far as if it is good to drive the ball 220 yards, it really depends. As you get bigger, you will probably hit it further. Your focus should be on hitting it consistently straight. Also, the biggest thing that will help your game progress is to learn how to putt. You should devote as much time to that as all other parts of your game combined. Good putting makes up for lots of bad shots.

hahaha that is the exact me when I was in 8th grade and a freshman. I hit it 220. It didn’t seem good but it is for that height and weight. Trust me you will gain distance as you get older. I am a senior now and easily hit it 300+. It takes time. Don’t worry about distance. Practice SHORT GAME as much as you can. Talk to the high school coach. He will respect that. Keep up the good work. Have a good attitude out there. Good luck

For six months play shooting low 80s is very good indeed.

You do hit the ball a good distance for your age and height but don’t worry about that. Focus on your short game, that is how you make good scores. Distance will come as you grow and develop a better more powerful swing.

I don’t know about the golf system in America but your idea sounds good, if you have a chance to play regular competitive golf then go for it. Playing against people is one of the best ways to improve, try and play against good players both in competitions and in practise, you will pick up tips from them and you can use them as a bench mark.

Make sure you try and stick with the same coach, i got lessons from local proffesionals and changed three times in about 6 months, it ruined my game as they all have different ideas.

REMEMBER SIZE DOES NOT MATTER… NEITHER DOES HOW FAR YOU HIT THE BALL OFF THE TEE , WHERE IS YOUR NEXT SHOT??? I AM A SHORT HITTER ALSO, ALTHOUGH I AM MUCH OLDER (AND WISER) IF YOU’RE ON IN TWO YOU’RE READY… IF NOT WORK ON THAT PART OF THE GAME TALK TO THE GOLF COACH, AND BE HONEST WITH HIM… HE WILL GUIDE YOU FROM THERE… GOOD LUCK AND “HIT ‘EM STRAIGHT”
